I believe, should the Lord tarry and we find ourselves in the midst of obvious trouble approaching, that there will be opportunities for the portion of the Church that really wants to do God's will and His commission. A perfect example of this could be China and other countries that find themselves oppressed. Christianity always thrives in persecution and tough times.
There are a couple of verses I want to leave for you as food for thought on this day:
Acts 1: 10-11
And while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel (Bruce- two angels who looked like men)
Which also said, you men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into Heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen Him go into Heaven.
If I may be so bold, what I would suggest to everyone reading is that these Spirit men were telling the crowd, "HEY... why are you standing around looking up for Jesus when there is SO MUCH WORK to be done!"
If you are born again, you can thank those folks that they listened to the angels! Because if they would have stayed focused on the clouds or would have chosen a solitary life, we probably would not have received the gospel in our time.
Bible prophecy is very important..but so is the complete work of the gospel, particularly the spread of the good news and the corresponding harvest (whether or not it comes) we seek when we plant seeds in our community. This is the work we have been commissioned to do. To do less is to not do the work that was given to us.
I heard a man of God say, "Be ready like Jesus is coming back today, but work for the salvation of the world and the betterment of the world around you like you will be here for the next 100 years." I believe that is the correct attitude.
Matthew 24:42 says you do not know what hour the Lord cometh...while Matthew 24:43 describes his coming as a thief that sneaks into your house. In many ways, we can know that in bad times there is a possibility that a thief may come ...but we do not know when - the thief can even come in good times (as verse 38 says regarding a 'business, or sin, as usual attitude when our Lord returns').
Most of us believe we know everything with a passion. This is why there is so much heated discussion between even Christians. I grew up in the church, the actions of people don't really surprise me that much anymore.
However, if we could focus on the world around us with that same passion and obey God in what we do, we might actually experience a revival in this land. Wouldn't that be a better scenario?
It is very "clear" that we see through a glass darkly. All of us.
As is stated in 1 John 3:2-
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
We have no clue about a lot of things because we have not been given those answers...because we do not need to know- yet.
The scriptures are very clear on the role of the Church in these days...unfortunately, there are not too many laborers... mostly armchair philosophers selling books that couldn't even come close to the Word of God...
We pray that it may change....
Revelation 22:20 gives us a reminder that Jesus will come back quickly... so it is important to always be ready.
Ok, back to work...
