Marc Boyajian has written a great book, "The Next Falling Empire." However, there are a few issues where I totally disagree with him.
1. Mandatory Service. This is something that President Elect Obama has also suggested. This, to me, is nothing more than forced labor. That just isn't acceptable in a free society. We don't force people into servitude. If government is in such bad shape that we need to force its' citizens to work, then maybe we need to do something sensible, like...I don't know... cut spending!!
2. Fingerprint ID for health care. I think he was suggesting a fingerprint ID card last night for health care tracking purposes. We do not need more intrusive measures by government and corporations. It seems like these types of measures just become slippery slopes for even more intrusive measures- privacy gets discarded in the process. There is also a major discussion going on in the fingerprinting world regarding reliability. Biometrics is evolving into more and more evasive solutions (i.e. ID embedded chips). Why can't we just have competency in record keeping?
Mostly, I agree with my guest on points raised in his book. Overall, I recommend the book and if America would adopt many of his suggestions, we would be in much better shape.
